Dina and Jerry were involved with IDC Herzliya, Israel’s first private, international university since it’s inception in 1994 (Jerry is the cofounder). A sculpture garden features prominently throughout the campus, and includes 3 of Dina’s pieces. Sunrays was the first piece to be accessioned, in 1996.
The work elegantly balances a series of straight and circular forms, evoking an abstract notion of the strong Israeli sun. Dina typically added titles after a sculpture was completed, but it is interesting to imagine that the choice of Sunrays for IDC (by Dina in conversation with Dr. Uriel Reichman, the University’s founding president) was influenced as much by the title as by the composition itself.
