2015 Inaugural Dina Wind Concert
Olivier was inspired by Dina Wind’s own sculpture and has created a multi-media work, including composed and semi-improvised music, projected images controlled in real time by Olivier at his laptop, plus eight of Wind’s metal sculptures which will not only be visible, but which are substantial enough and resonant enough to be struck with mallets, thus becoming percussion instruments themselves. Olivier’s three miniatures will each feature projected images, derived from different technical procedures, and including views of Dina Wind’s work, images from the performance itself, and stop-motion animation. Olivier studied at Loyola University, later earning a doctorate at Temple, where he now teaches. His chamber works can be heard on the Melos Music CD series, and his works featuring electronics have traveled to Taiwan, the UK, and Iceland.
The concert will be performed on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 3 PM, in the historic and acoustically excellent auditorium of the Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catherine Street in south Philadelphia. The program will be repeated on October 28 at 8:15 PM at West Chester University, Swope Music Building, 817 South High Street in West Chester.
